Blog BusinessPosted: May 27, 2004
Interesting article about one guy’s attempt to make some money out of blogging. The most interesting part was some of the revenue numbers. He basically pays freelance writers about $2,000 bucks a month for 8+ posts per day. Interestingly, he doesn’t give the writers any equity in the company. If there’s anyone that’s going to get rich from this venture, it looks like it will be him! Revenue from ad driven blogs is (supposedly) around $5K-10K. That makes yearly revenue numbers for his blogs (like Wonkette and Gizmodo) around $80K. He’s planning on starting a bunch more. I could imagine him selling off individual blogs as they become really successful. A few million here and there could be had. Not bad for not doing much more than finding some good writers and publicizing them.
